About Kuakata
Kuakata, the "Daughter of the Sea" in local lore, is unique in Bangladesh — the only beach where both sunrise and sunset are visible from the same shoreline. The 18-kilometre beach curves at the tip of the Kuakata peninsula, with the Bay of Bengal to the south and the Andharmanik river to the north. The horizon is wide and unobstructed in every direction.
The journey to Kuakata is an adventure: from Dhaka you take a launch or bus to Patuakhali, then a local bus or auto-rickshaw to the beach. The remoteness keeps crowds low relative to Cox's Bazar. Along the beach, Rakhaine tribal villages sell handmade fabrics and fermented fish. Migratory birds stop at the beach in winter.
November to February is the best season for calm seas, comfortable weather, and the clearest sunrise and sunset conditions. The monsoon season brings rough waves and limited accessibility.
